At around 10:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, the Southampton Town Police Department learned that an online post was circulating among students in the Hampton Bays School District.

In the post, an unidentified boy said he couldn’t take being bullied anymore and was going to shoot up a school, police said.

An investigation found that the post was made by a boy who lives in North Carolina, and the threat was deemed “non-credible,” according to police.

Detectives relayed their findings to the Hampton Bays School District before school started on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Additional officers conducted extra patrols at campuses in the area out of precaution.
